Confused, Broken, and Hurting

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a training called “Every Child’s Identity in Christ” held in another CEF chapter. It was led by a ministry called Center for Biblical Unity. Over the weekend we talked about what children are being taught through social media, their school or family about their identity, sexuality, and their place in society. As I sat through the classes I became increasingly perplexed specifically by what we, including the children, are being taught about sexuality; gender identity, gender expression, biological sex, and sexual orientation. There are so many words with meanings that we’re expected to be aware of so that we don’t offend anyone. Words like otherkin, Therian, Furry. Also, were you aware that the word “Ally” now has a totally new meaning?

I sat there thinking, “I am SO confused” (Just google “the genderbread person”~ yes this is the correct spelling~ and you’ll be confused too). I’m confused as an adult. What if I had been taught all of this in fourth grade? When I was in fourth grade I already had enough trouble figuring out what my own personality was, my personal hobbies, how to interact with people… who doesn’t? Don’t we even still have moments like this as adults? How do our kids feel? How do they feel when something so not normal is being normalized? But at the same time this IS normal. It’s normal in the fact that the world has always been hurting and broken. I can’t help but grieve for those who are so confused. After all, without Christ, you and I are broken too. As Christians we can rest knowing Christ is our healer. Christ is the one who mends us. It’s not that some of us have been born broken and some born whole…we’re ALL born broken and in need of the redemption Christ brings. Aren’t you and I SO blessed to have this truth?? We don’t have to stay confused, broken and hurting and we have the anecdote for those who still are. Will you fight for truth? Standing for biblical values is not “harsh” or “unfeeling”, it’s standing for the right kind of healing, wholeness, and true life. Life that Christ gives. Jesus promised, “I came that they may have life and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) Take heart wherever it is you’re standing whether it be your job, home, school, or even your church.

Do you ever feel “out of your league” standing for a biblical view of sexuality? I’m so thankful for ministries like Center for Biblical Unity who offer resources and podcasts to educate us. But that’s not all there is! At our January Training class, we’ll have a session devoted to the topic of encouraging children in their Biblical Identity. This class is for anyone.

Will you stand for the biblical quality of life Jesus died to give us?
