The Journal, the Devotional and the Decision – September 2019

If you know me you know I love to Bible journal and I love to share the love of that with anyone who asks. In the spring, I showed some of my Bible art to the children at a Good News Club where I had been teaching. So when the summer came and I found myself helping at camp naturally I wanted to share journaling with the girls. I made each girl a journal from an altered composition book. Each day during the quiet time I let them use their journals to write and draw, and each night I took the journals home and wrote a special message to each of the girls.

Thursday’s devotional was about a boy who took a Bible quiz to see if he would go to heaven. He failed the quiz- no matter all the good he had done he answered “no” to having accepted Jesus as his Savior. So this one little girl came and showed me her book for that day where she drew some flowers and wrote the word “yes” with a check next to it. Upon counseling I learned that until that day she had not accepted Jesus as Savior and the devotional helped her realize that by not deciding it meant separation from God forever.

What a blessing the journal and devotional were that day and the impact it had on one little girl’s decision to follow Jesus as her Savior.

The Mailbox Club:

For 22 years Mrs. Kay Artz has been known as “The Mailbox Club

Lady.” Many children have come to know the

Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and grown in their knowledge of God through these Bible lessons done through the mail and Kay’s dedication to proclaiming the Gospel. Kay’s heartfelt desire is to see this ministry continue without interruption. We are seeking an individual who loves the Lord and loves children who would work alongside Kay learning how to process the Mailbox Club lessons and who would take over as “The Mailbox Club Lady” when Kay is ready to pass on the mantel.

This is what a 12 year old girl from Girardville had to say about the Mailbox Club, “I like this lesson. Thank you for sending it to me. It is important to learn about God as of- ten as possible to me.”

The Mailbox Club lessons reach areas of our county where we do not have Good News Clubs or camps. Will you make it a matter of prayer, bringing before the Throne of Grace this need asking the Lord if you are the one He is calling to this ministry?

If you have questions or would like more information please call the CEF office 570-682-9790.

Committee Change:

Another change to our local committee. Ray Burian has served as a committee member since 2008. Due to a job change that makes it more difficult for him to regularly attend the monthly committee meetings, Ray has decided to resign his position. Ray has strong leadership skills and helped to lead the ministry of CEF in new directions including holding Good News Day Camp in Chinatown, Philadelphia. He has a strong faith in the Lord and God has gifted him with problem solving skills. He will be missed.

Summer Memories:

Chinatown Philadelphia Camp:

26 Chinese kids equals lots of fun and noise. Thor learned how to say, “be quiet” in Chinese. He needed to. He was the team leader for 5 extremely busy 5 year old boys (who, when they were in motion, which was most of the time, seemed like a team of 20 boys). As staff , we received a huge compliment from the parents as they were impressed with how hard we worked and that we held camp on our Independence Day.

Tamaqua Camp:

There were 54 children pre- registered for the start of camp Monday morning. By Friday there were 98 children in attendance.

Minersville Camp:

“Sweep” (a camp character) was teasing me. Wyatt calls out, “Hey! Don’t make fun of Miss Shelley, she’s a nice old lady.” Everyone laughed. Then Wyatt said, “I didn’t mean the old part.”

Here is what parents are saying about
Good News Day Camp:

“Thank you for making my daughters excited to learn about God!”
