Recently, one of my children said to me,” I feel like I should be learning something from the coronavirus lockdown. But I don’t know what God is trying to teach me.”
God does not waste the circumstances of our lives. There have been times in my life when God has caused some unordinary circumstance to teach me something quickly. But most of the time learning happens slowly – too slowly to notice. Not only during COVID-19, but always, we should be asking ourselves, what is God teaching me?
So I will tell you what God has been teaching, or re-teaching, me during this pandemic. Since things are not normal, and many pleasures of life have been taken from me, my question is, what am I here for?
I have been studying the book of Luke in my personal devotional time with the Lord. In it I find that Jesus is focused on the kingdom of God. And our focus should be the same.
Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. Lk.12:32
Jesus’s answer to life’s unwanted events? The kingdom of God! What are we here for? We are here for the kingdom – present and future. I am so looking forward to that future kingdom! Aren’t you??
And they will come from east and west and north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. Lk.13:29
But right now I am living in the present Kingdom. How should I be living?
Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Lk.12:35-36
I want to live like that! Our goal at CEF is to be dressed and waiting while we continue to bring more and more children into the Kingdom. We have had to change our plans. We have adjusted our methods. But our goal is the same. We cannot do this without you – you who are in the Kingdom too! Your prayers keep us ready. Your support keeps our lamps lit. And when our Master returns, together we will immediately open the door to Him!
