It is easy to be a sunny day Christian and praise God when things are going our way. It is harder to praise Him in the storm. It is hard to be a stormy day Christian. Psalm 86:12 says “I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name forevermore.” KJV. Certain versions say with all my be- ing and I will honor you forever- more. The Bible doesn’t say that we should praise Him with part of who we are, it says glorify Him with all my being, all of who I am and all I am meant to be. When life is going well and the sky is sunny and warm we say “Thank you God for all you have done.” What if we, during the rainy season would say, “Thank you Lord for the trials I am facing and your strength to get through?” Do
we thank Him when the answer to our prayer is “No”?
When Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on the water towards Jesus I can imagine his face filled with excitement and then all of a sudden, maybe a clap of thunder or flash of lightening distracted him. He took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink down into the water. Oh the panic he must have felt in that moment. Just then, the Master’s hand took hold and lifted him from the stormy waters.
At a recent Good News Club I was counseling a little girl who was facing a storm in her life. Her dad lives in another state and her mom does not allow her to see him or talk to him. She doesn’t know why and doesn’t understand. She asked me, “Miss Jimmie Lu, how can I thank God for this situation?” That was a tough question and a hard situation for this 12 year old. I said, “Thank God for what will come.” You see I told her to pray for her mom and dad, to ask God to make a way that she could connect with her dad, and to thank God for what he will do for her.
In the midst of the storm remember to thank God for what He will do!
Blessings,
Jimmie Lu
