Do you ever wonder where God is in our country while we are losing our moral footing and wickedness is prospering? I’m sure the Israelites in Egypt wondered the same thing when they were in slavery to a wicked Pharoah.
But we know that God was there. He was there in the home of that little family of Amram and Jochebed as they showed their faith by hiding their baby against the ruling of the Pharoah. Outwardly, it looked like there was no God in Egypt or Goshen, but where God’s people are, God is there.
One reason that God brought the plagues on Egypt was to show Pharoah that God was present. “But on that day I will deal differently with the land of Goshen, where my people live; no swarms of flies will be there, so that you will know that I, the LORD, am in this land.” Exodus 8:22
When I think about God’s people living in a dark land, I am reminded of Shenandoah. There are 17 children in my Good News Club® (GNC®) in Shenandoah. And yet, not a single one of them has a church affiliation listed on their registration form. Where is God in that small city? I see evidence that He is there when one of my fourth-grade boys shouts out that the story of Moses is from the book of Exodus!! Where did he learn that? Was it in some small household where God is present?
If God would answer my prayers for Shenandoah, He would do three things. First, He would send us someone who is fluent in Spanish to help with our club. There are a lot of Spanish-speaking families in that school. Secondly, He would move on someone’s heart to start a church in Shenandoah. A mother thanked me profusely for having GNC® and asked me where I go to church because since she moved to Shenandoah she could not find a Bible-believing church. And third, He would help us to find an area there for outreach in the summer or that someone with a van would provide transportation for the children in Shenandoah GNC® to go to summer camp.
God is in the land. He is present in His people. Would you pray with me for Shenandoah? Maybe you are the answer to one of my prayers. I find great encouragement knowing that even when I can’t see it, God is present. God has a purpose for Shenandoah. Who wants to be part of it?
