My granddaughter often asks me to tell her stories from the summer~ especially if the story is about an animal. No animal stories this year (at least not that I recall), but good stories~ God stories: stories of His faithfulness, His lovingkindness, and His humor!
Enjoy!
From Tamaqua
- Extreme heat and humidity~ it was air you could wear, until Friday. The temp dropped 30 degrees and it rained all day.
- A little boy was singing the camp songs to his mom.
- A bossy little boy (he was hitting the other boys with a stick) wanted his own way in crafts. Linda said to him, “You have a mind of your own!” He responded, “Who told you that?”
- Almost everyone felt the loss of a precious 13 year old girl who was called to heaven 2 weeks before camp began. She grew up attending camp and was led to the Lord when she was in kindergarten and her nanna served as a team leader. Her nanna led her to the Lord.
Five Day Club
- A 6 year old girl gave me a hug and said, “Thank you for teaching us about Jesus. This week went fast.” I wasn’t the teacher, but she loved club!
Valley View
- During the Bible lesson introduction I asked the children, “What would you do if you were king?” Answers: “Create affordable housing and cars” and “buy a mansion”.
- A boy wet his pants~ two pastors took care of his emotional needs and physical needs.
A mom stopped at the park and asked Pastor Ben what we were doing and he explained about the camp. The mom registered her two sons for the rest of the week. The following week we learned that God used praying grandmothers to bring that woman and her boys to the park. Ben’s mom is in a prayer group with the boys’ grandmother in Montandon!
Rock (Pine Grove)
- A boy projectile vomited in the bathroom. Camp directors need all kinds of skills that are not listed in the job description!
- We were blessed with the use of a Ga-Ga pit (a penned-in area where a kind of dodgeball is played) thanks to a teenage boy who grew up attending camp and built the pit as his Eagle Scout Project. He was very concerned that it be completed in time for camp.
- During counseling a girl answered all the Gospel questions. Her team leader asked her where she attends church. Her reply, “I don’t.” The little girl explained that she attends Good News Club and learned about Jesus there.
- Another child told her team leader being at Rock camp is like “coming home.”
Auburn
- The leader for the oldest team of boys was 16 years old. The boys were not being very respectful and were giving the young man a hard time. When I gave the leader the option to move to a different team he said, “No. I’d like to give them the chance to show they can be respectful. What does that say if, when it gets hard, I quit?”
- In the bathroom drying my hands when a kindergarten girls says to me, “Aren’t you supposed be teaching?” Me, “I did this morning, now I’m going to a meeting with the team leaders. Aren’t you supposed me in crafts?” Girl: “I had to poop!”
Email from a mom
“Sam and Grace thoroughly enjoyed their time @ Bible Camp! Both of them are looking forward to the entire week! They have their attire ready for tomorrow–red, white, blue or camo! Lol”
Schuylkill County Fair
While a summer missionary was sharing the Gospel with two girls, she asked them, “Do you know who God is?” The girls shook their heads and said, “No.” The parents were standing nearby and overheard the exchange. The mom said to the dad, “Did you hear that? They said they didn’t know who God is?” Dad replied, “Well, we don’t go to church.” Mom, “I know, but still!?”
Pray that God uses the Gospel tract and devotional information to move their family to “seek” for the Lord because He promised He would be found.
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
