“We were small, but alive!” – September 2018

These are the words Pastor Keith McCarthy used to describe the camp held at Primrose Bible Church, Minersville area. There were 14 children in attendance, small in comparison to the other camps~ but alive!

I’m always moved at how God works in the lives of the children He sends to camp. The missionaries that week were Jeff and Melissa Beauvais. They were telling about the ministry “The Shoe that Grows” along with sharing the Gospel with the children. On Friday, Melissa felt led to pray individually with those who were at camp: children, team assistants, team leaders, etc. She stood at the side of the pews and encouraged those who so desired to line up and she would pray with each person. I was skeptical because most of the 14 children were in K-2nd grade and I thought they wouldn’t understand what Melissa was doing or be able to sit through it. Was I ever wrong!

As I watched children began to line up and quietly wait their turn. Team leaders, assistants, staff~ Melissa prayed while Jeff quietly played piano. When noon time came and the line was set, those who were not in line went out for lunch. After about 10 minutes I noticed a kindergarten boy, who had gone out for lunch, was now in line. This is what I later found out:

After his team leader had taken them downstairs, the little guy requested to go up and pray with Melissa! This very rambunctious boy stood quietly waiting for prayer. He also made a profession of faith in Jesus as his Savior.

At Tamaqua we were short-staffed, but not short-handed because the team of volunteers worked well together and helped each other out. In attendance were 3 sets of twins! That was a first. The “blue team” of boys was mostly kindergarten. There were 10 on the team, but when you watched them play it looked like 30! (10 boys that age is busy) We taught them an exciting game: Dead Fish. For about 20 minutes these boys would lay on the ground in a row and be dead fish. Then they would go for a swim down the macadam and come back to lay on the dock as dead fish. Sometimes they were even sardines in a can. It still makes me laugh when I think about it! Too cute.

Valley View was a perfect weather week with many children in attendance and lots of fun.

Auburn was short handed as several volunteers just didn’t show up. God is good and the summer missionaries stepped up and did triple duty and the office staff filled in the gaps.

Pine Grove~ there were 18 children on the bus, so we are planning to bus the children next year.

As always, I look back and remember all that God has done and I rejoice.
