You Know, When – Stories from Good News Club

You know children have been listening when…

A 4th grade boy in one of my clubs was concerned because his friend did not believe in God. What should he tell him, he wanted to know. Most of the things I told him, he had already done. I was impressed with his concern. We tell the students many times that they need to tell their friends about Jesus. This young man took that seriously! We agreed that both of us will be praying for his friend.

You know the Holy Spirit is working when…

At the end of the Bible lesson, about 12 children met me at the back of the room to be counseled for salvation. One by one I asked the children why they had come back. As I guessed, most of them had no idea. So, one by one, I sent them back to their seats. I was down to 2 children. One was an older boy who went to a good church and had heard the Gospel many times. He expressed that he had raised his hand before, but I didn’t talk with him. He recognized his own sin of lying and called on Jesus to be his Savior.

You know that volunteers are awesome when…

In all my clubs this year, there are volunteers who teach the missions time. The teaching has been on North Korea. The children learned about the Gospel helium balloons that Christians send over the border of North Korea so that wherever the balloons land, those who find the balloons can read the message of salvation. One missions teacher decided to purchase helium balloons herself, get permission from the proper authorities, have the children put a gospel message on them and let the balloons go the last day of club. The children had so much fun, and we had a beautiful day for releasing the balloons!

You know you are old when…

I passed around the Gospel helium balloons for the children to see at one of my clubs. The balloons are white with black writing (in Korean). One boy remarked, “This looks like a newspaper…like old people read.”

You know there is more work to do, but it is worth it when…

At one of my clubs, we have a very talkative 2nd grade boy. He is unusually smart and seems to know something about everything. He is constantly shouting out information or questions. So, it is tempting to ignore some questions in order to get on with the club. One week he shouted out the question, “Is Christianity the only religion that teaches about Jesus?” He kept repeating the question over and over. We were able to let him know that Christianity is the only religion that teaches that Jesus is who He says He is. Many religions teach about Jesus, but they don’t believe that He is the Son of God, the Savior of the world.

You know you are having fun, when…
