April 2021 Newsletter – Change

Change will always be part of our lives. Many times we embrace it and other times we fight against it. We can sometimes foresee the change and other times it is like a sneak attack. Sometimes it surprises catching us off guard. The one constant thing we can rely on during change is God. Nothing surprises him and he is always with us.
I always held to the verse in Deuteronomy that says God will not leave or forsake us, yet we can really dig a little deeper into that passage for the changes we can and cannot see coming. For God promised in Deuteronomy 31:6, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Be strong and courageous, during change this is not always the easiest command to follow yet God has told us to be just that. “Do not be afraid or terrified,” this also is not the easy, but remember the promise part of this verse, “for the Lord your God goes with you” is where we can gain strength and courage. To calm our fears we can trust that God is right by our side.
As a child my mom once told me we were moving from a city I had known all my life and friends and a school I had attended until 7th grade. She told me that it was ok to be afraid because change is not easy. While as an adult I find this sometimes to be true more often I am not afraid because I hold onto the promises in Deuteronomy. Moving on from a school and friends was hard for a time yet I quickly adjusted to a new school with new friends and even a new favorite pastime, marching band.
I just wanted to encourage each of you that when change comes, and we know it will, to seek shelter and com-fort in God. Know he is right there with you and has not forsaken you in a time where you feel you need him most. Know that while you may miss what you have changed from that God has a plan in place for your life and this change may be just part of such a plan.
